SKYFOREST

The picturesque community of Skyforest is located right on Highway 18 between the Rim of the World High School and where Santa's Village used to be.  It is only about a 5 minute drive to Lake Arrowhead Village and is a perfect location for those who wish to commute down the hill for work.  Driving through this neighborhood, you will quickly learn why this is such a unique place.

Skyforest holds a very special place in my heart because it was my childhood home.  My parents still live there in the house they purchased back in the sixties.  I spent my days riding bikes in the summer and sledding in the winter.  I sold lemonade and popcorn outside the post office, climbed trees, split firewood and had a treehouse.  I picked strawberries from the garden, chased the Monarch butterflies on their way South and made mud pies.  It was a great area to grow up in and I couldn't recommend it more highly to anyone looking to move here.

Skyforest has a small commercial area near the intersection of Kuffel Canyon Road and Highway 18 called Willow Woods.   For something to eat, visit Rocky's Deli (great sandwiches) or Arturo's Mexican Food.  There's a book store, pet grooming shop, a sewing/knitting store, some art galleries, etc.  There's also a post office if you need to get a stamp or something put in the mail.

Because of its location near the Rim of the World and Highway 18, and due to its 5,750 feet in elevation, Skyforest often has more weather than many of the other mountain communities.  Weather that comes into the area generally arrives from the south, pushes up the mountain side and right into Skyforest.  This means that the area can accumulate more rain and snow during storms, stays colder for longer periods and can have stronger gusts of wind.  However, it is beautiful year-round, whether the sun is shining, or the snow is falling!

The extra moisture that Skyforest accumulates throughout the year allows the trees grow strong and large.  There are many huge oaks, pines, firs, cedars and dogwoods.  The understory is often thick with bracken ferns, seedling trees and shrubs.

Lot sizes in Skyforest tend to be large, many are 1/2 an acre or better.  This gives many homeowners in the Skyforest area a feeling of seclusion and "elbow room."   Skyforest has its own water company and primarily uses well-water as their water source.  Properties here are on septic systems and there is no sewer tie-in available.
